Question:

I live in Phoenix. A strange critter is digging holes in the sand that borders my sidewalk against the house.?

. What is it. I'm afraid to reach in the holes. The holes are about 2 inches across.

  1. It might be a Mexican.


  2. Sounds like ground squirrels to me too. Get a cat or fill the hole up with water. Stick that hose down there for a good hour and I think they'll stop.

  4. Call your local SPCA.  Someone on the staff could probably tell you what it might be.

  5. It's a good bet that if it's not an insect or reptile it's a Golden Mantled Ground Squirrel.  Otherwise, I'll refer you to the first answer.

    I wouldn't stick my hand in there regardless, burrowing owls and snakes often take over on abandoned squirrel burrows.

  6. it most probably is some sort of lizard. Leave the critter alone. It's got more right to live in the desert than we do. They are harmless to humans.
