  1. shedding is the *least* of your worries with the breed.....

  2. Huskies shed a LOT, all year round.  They do go through a "molting" period twice a year, where they will shed a ton, but they do shed quite a bit consistently throughout the year.  It will help a great deal if you brush your dog regularly.  There are some amazing products for deshedding dogs, for example the FURminator tool is amazing. It will seriously eliminate the amount of shedding.  With some consistent brushing, the Huskie's shedding is certainly manageable.  Good luck!

  3. All dogs shed, but some breeds shed more than others.

Light exposure, either to sun or artificial light, determines the amount and timetable of shedding.  Environmental temperature has a lesser influence.  More hair is shed during the greatest exposure to light, which typically coincides with the summer months.  In fact, house dogs under constant exposure to artificial light may shed all year long.

Typically the growing season for fur begins in the early spring when the new incoming fur pushes out the old dead hairs.

The fur continues to grow throughout the summer, then rests during the winter months when the least amount of daylight is present.  During this resting phase, fur tends to be most easily pulled out, because the hair root loosens in preparation for the spring shed.

  4. You'll have dog-hair tumbleweeds blowing through your house all year long.

  5. Huskies are bred for very cold weather. Why bring it into a hot climate, unless you shave it first? I would seriously get a short-haired dog. I think a cold weather dog would suffer in that heat.

  6. Sibes shed a lot, all year round. But twice a year, they blow their coat and then they shed even more. Get ready to have hair on your floor pretty much all the time. I sweep at least once a day and there is still hair everywhere.

I live in Northern CA and my Sibe gets pretty hot during the summer. Make sure the water bowls are always filled and she will probably want to stay in the house to get away from the heat. If you can, get her a plastic wading pool. My Sibe loves to immerse herself in water.

  7. Depending on how many times you brush him/her, take him/her to the groomers, etc. it'll probably shed a little all-year-round, but shed the under-coat two times. :)
