  1. I think it would be a good idea for you to ask your parents how much a month they spend on the phone/internet and how much their electricity bills are. That will at least give you an idea of that factor.

You should head to a real estate and look at some rental properties just to get an idea of how much you can expect to be paying per week. If its too expensive then you could look into getting a flat mate. Perhaps a cousin, friend, brother/sister...

Also, you might need to check out wether you pay for water. Most rental properties have this included. Although if you go over the set amount you have to pay for any extra (doubt youd do that though).

Food is pretty expensive. Although if youre only feeding yourself then it wont be too costly for you. You should get aside at least $200-$300 per week for food. Also, it generelly costs more for food when you first move in coz you have to buy all the staples like sauces, salt and pepper etc.

Also, you need to think about furniture. Do you have any? Can you get some cheap or free from family or friends? If not then places like fantastic furniture are great, esp for when you first move out. Garage sales are also an excellent idea.

    Good luck!

  2. Do you have any friends or brothers or sisters who have already moved out? They might be able to provide advice.

The best approach might be to enter a share house. When you interview with the other residents they should be able to give you a breakdown of what the bills are like.

Try the budget planner below. Not all of the categories will apply to you but it gives you an idea of what you have to budget for. Your parents should be able to help estimate how much utilities like gas, electricity or water might be, based on your current household bills.

  3. It really depends on where you live in sydney, or willing to live. I mean renting an apartment in the west is cheap, but you could fork over thousands for a trendy apartment in the CBD, so really i think you could survive with like $300,

But really i suggest get a friend(s) as flatemate(s) because it evens out the cooking load and you can live in a cool place without costing too much
