I live in Texas and have a question on insurance coverage..?

If a friend drives your car and he is not included in the policy, will he still be cover if involved in an accident or if a police agent asks for insurance????

  1. It depends on the policy.

    On a standard policy, if the friend doesn't live with you, and doesn't drive regularly (aka, has their own car, isn't a boyfriend, etc) they would usually be covered, UNLESS, your policy says otherwise.


  2. Whether he's covered or not depends on your policy. I have State Farm, and my policy covers licensed drivers whom I have given permission to drive my car. As long as there is a current insurance card in the vehicle the police should accept it.  I also live in Texas.

  3. Cars are insured, not drivers.  If you give your friend permission to drive your insured car and the friend has a valid license, he and the car and any passenger in that car are covered

  4. If you gave your friend permission you’ll he’ll likely have coverage under your policy
