  1. Your unit is not working properly. When was the last time the filter was changed. If it is accessible, look at the outside unit (condenser) and see if there is any ice on the lines.

Stay on your landlord to get this fixed if it isn't frozen-up.

  2. Try using a fan in combination with your ac. The cool air might be lingering up near the ceiling.

  3. the ac is not working right if your temp is reading 85 degrees, and your thermostat is set on 50,tel your landlord to call an ac company,he is lying to you.

  4. is it really 85,if so the landlord is to lazy to fix it,high ceiling have nothing to do with it  cold air sinks

  5. if u can get to the vents...take a thermometer and check the temp coming out of the vents....all the hot air should raise up and the cold air to floor......to do this right u need to check the air temp at the vent and the air temp at the return....the difference will tell u if there is a problem, it shouldnt be more than 6 deg difference in temp......

  6. First of all A thermostat on a good operating A/c unit should not be set as low as 50 and left to run over the cooler night. When set this low and the room temp gets below aprroc 68  entering the return then the face temp of the cooling coil it is moving through drops close to or below freezing and the humidity in the air entering freezes and restricts air flow even more. If your filter is clean, and no air restrictions are found like closed vents and blockaged like a couch in front of the vents, and your blower is running and moving air. Then the Delta T of difference between the air entering the return air register and the air leaving the supply grills shoud be approx 18 to 20 degrees Example 85 entering and 65 leaving. If there is no air flow out of your vents and te fan is running It might be Iced up.

Turn it off and run the (Fan only) to thaw for a couple of hours. There are other possiabilities that could cause your a/c not to cool.

But if you living space is 85 degrese you need a Service Tech.

    Good luck
