  1. Just paint it what you want and paint over it in white (or whatever color the walls are) before you leave.  It shouldn't be a problem unless you were specifically asked not to, which is not very often.  If all else fails, just hang some nice artwork.  Good luck!

  2. Have you asked the landlord if you can paint? Some will allow it if you agree to paint it back at the end (and to be careful not to get paint on carpets, flooring, etc. Taping is key!).

At the apartment building I manage, we allow long-term tenants to paint as long as they don't use really dark colours which are too hard to paint over at the end. We will usually supply for free the paint for the tenants to repaint before they go (since we repaint between each tenant anyway). So no harm in asking!

If they say no, try this:

-Hang fabric in panels. This can be very effective but expensive unless you find some nice, cheap fabric you like. Great for a focus wall.

    -Get some large posters

-punch up the colour with decorative pillows, rugs, plants, etc.

    Good luck!

  3. What about curtains and draperies to be used as a wall covering? Think "Paris Apartment" for an ultra swanky look.

  4. Wallpaper? Beauty boards which you glue on? Posters, carpets.
