I wondered if I could put ratsak pellets through the holes in the wall vent as I have no other way of accessing the roof. Is it safe to do this?

  1. Most rat poisons have not only ingestion but inhalation toxicity, which means putting it in an air vent or duct is NOT a good idea.

If you can open up the vent grate, you should use traps.

By the way, are you a renter?  If so, call your landlord and tell him the law compels him to take care of this ASAP.  Without poison.

  2. you may want to use a mechanical trap, not poison because if you kill the the rat and it dies in the wall  its going to stink
