I live in georgia and borrowed a friends car is it legal for me to purchase insurance to cover it?

  1. Nope.  And if you buy the insurance, the company doesn't have to cover the car - you have no "insurable interest".  You don't own the car.

No - The insurance has to be in the name of the owner of the vehicle.  You have no insurable interest - meaning, if the car was damaged or destroyed, you would not be losing anything because it's not your car.  ALWAYS be sure a vehicle is insured before you drive it.  In Georgia, if you are stopped, the police can tell right away if it's insured or not by checking the registration.  Then YOU get charged for driving without insurance.
