I live in h**l, what should I do?

I moved into this building in Winter, everything was fine, the apartment was really cute, location was great..5 min walk to my doctors office, on a subway line so you don’t even need a car, I can get to work very easily…..Everything was great during the Winter…

Then summer came, and it’s as if the freaks were hibernating all winter…The noise never ends, I get maybe 2 hours of sleep a night…I will list the freaks for you so you can see what I’m going through…

-First floor there is a Rastafarian, who plays Reggae 24/7

-Second floor below me, the have a huge pittbul that doesn’t stop barking, to make things worse, they leave it out on the balcony all night

-My floor, I have a lady at the end of the hall that has 4 little kids that aren’t allowed to play outside, so they play around in the halls, banging, kicking doors…Write on the walls

-The lady next door to me doesn’t close her balcony door at night, so whenever the wind blows. The doors makes a loud BANG

Its almost as if, once the warm weather started, the neighbors from h**l decided to come out and disturb the peace…

I can’t afford to move right now…How can I get more sleep? I already put the air conditioner on full blast to drowned out the noise…But eventually I’ll have to stop sleeping in the freezing cold…

you don't live in h**l. I can assure you h**l is much worse than anything on earth. go to church to meet quality friends and pray. alot. sounds like you need jesus

Talk to the landlord.  Tell them that you hate to bring a list of complaints, but when you moved here, these problems were NOT occurring.  

Other options:

Reggae guy - call the police for playing the music

Second floor - call animal control

Kids - Definitely need to talk to the landlord.  They are vandalizing the property.

Lady next door - Ask the landlord if he can install foam on the doorframe so it won't slam.

What about ear plugs...those have worked for me in the past,there are some that are comfortable...you could also try some music on the radio or even headphones until you fall asleep.

Good luck,irritating neighbors are the worst.

well this is the price we pay if we want to live in a well populated area. There really isn't much that can be done . If you tell the neighbors to shut up they get louder so you might not even want to try.

Does your building have a manager, super, or something like that? Surely you could complain to them, if complaining to the offenders personally hasn't yielded any results. If not, there are noise by-laws - contact your local police department. Music and barking dogs are considered noise pollution. Good luck!

I went through a sort of similar situation and I've got three recommendations for you now.

First industrial earplugs, the foam ones to sleep. (not the ones for the swimming pool, noise protection 3M has very good ones) You can use them every night for a long period without problems. I have tested'em myself and at least I didn't have any. (I mean months and more than that too)

Industrial, kind of cup heaphones, noise protection during the day. If the situation gets too extreme you can even combine both.

Third ambient music, you may not be in the mood to listen to music (specially if you are annoyed by so much noise around you) so ambient ambient music (is something between music and "white noise") kind of covers up noises and smoothes everything.
