  1. live shrimp always worked best for me

  2. Glad to agree with steve & joe, live shrimp is tops. Reds and trout are targeted game fish where I live and I've caught my best with shrimp. If fishing bottom, use as little weight as possible, sometimes a split shot is all you need. Sometimes the popping cork is best. I like to hook the shrimp through the head, just behind that black dot. They stay alive & look natural. Catch em up.

  3. SHRIMP! if you have a cast net try to catch the local forage though. I always have more success if I use bait i caught in the area

  4. well most redfish life in the sea but anyway probably the best bait to use is mullet, squid, shrimp they will jump for that stuff.

  5. Your best bait for reds in that area is live or fresh dead shrimp. Use a popping cork with a live shrimp for the specks. Fishing the Ponchartrain can be tricky depending on how much fresh water is around. One day your catching rat reds and the next day is channel catfish. If you head towards Grand Isle at the mouth of the Ponchartrain you will have better luck. I have caught allot of bull reds and specks near Grand Island. I lived in St Mary Parish some years ago and fished the Gulf coast for over 30yrs. Feel free to email me for more info. 40yr exp.
