  1. If you live in New Jersey and your wedding is in New Jersey, what's the problem?  You can get your license on your lunch hour.  Where is your fiance, and why didn't you get the license 2 or 3 weeks ago?

You absolutely MUST tell your officiant ahead of time that you don't have a license.  I don't know New Jersey law, but other states don't allow the "I now pronounce you man and wife" if there isn't a valid license; it's considered fraud to do the pronouncement when the couple in fact isn't married at all.

  2. well why don't you.........you should have made sure you had your license in plenty of time.....my first marriage was in NJ and I know it wasn't a difficult thing to do....

...all you can do is ask your officiant to go thru the public ceremony but not file the papers, of course...then ask if you can return to have them do the real deal quietly.....when you have the license in hand...it may cost you an extra fee....hopefully the officiant is sympathetic to your situation..........good luck.

  3. you can have a ceremony and a reception but  you will not be legally married in any state without the license.

  4. Well you can have the ceremony, but you will not be legally married.  You must get the license first in order to be legally married.  If you didn't get the license, then you could have teh ceremony, and then maybe have a civil courthouse marriage the next week or something.

You should talk to your officiant (person performing the ceremony).  Because they may not want to do the ceremony without the license.

The best thing to do is put it off until you have yourself organized.

  5. It would not be legally binding.  You also may want to make sure you talk to the perosn marrying you if you do not have the license... they may not proceed with the ceremony.

  6. It is possible to have the ceremony; however, remember that you will not be married.  Let the officiant know beforehand so he/she is not thinking that it's an actual marriage ceremony.
