It depends largely on your case, and somewhat on the dentist...eg, the cost covers things like lab fees and materials used, which vary depending on the office and lab.  Nobody can really give you a number besides dentists who have seen you.  If you are concerned that you were overquoted, ask for a breakdown, contact the RCDSO or see another dentist.  If you are looking for the least expensive route, go to UWO or U of T dental clinic.

my brother in law just got a set for $1500.... you only need half so probably about $750.
