  1. I like flying =) I think it's relaxing, because you can hear the sound of the engine and it's soothing. Even the turbulence relaxed me - it was like being in a car and going over slight bumps, but smoothly. Looking out the window is fun, because seeing everything from so high up is really cool. Especially if you fly at night....wowww that's beautiful. It honestly looks like someone took gold craft glitter and threw it all over black velvet, because of all the lights of the cities. It's fun seeing all of the clusters of light, because you're looking at so many different cities at once, cities that are probably miles apart from each other but you can see all of them!

Basically, once you're up in the air flying, it feels no different than being in a car. Taking off and landing are both fun, in my opinion. When taking off you speed up a lot, but it's not like press-against-your-seat fast. Then suddenly there's nothing underneath you and it feels cool. The landing is not as bumpy as you think it would be- there's just a quick jolt and then you're on the ground. You just gotta remember how SAFE you are on a plane. Enjoy it, it's a really cool experience! =)

  2. What it's like to ride on an airplane?  Pretty boring, to be completely honest.  Bring plenty of things to entertain yourself with (book, laptop, etc.).  If you're lucky, the plane will show a movie during your flight, but not all of them do.  On-flight movies seem to be getting rarer and many flights just show clips of television shows through some channel the airline carrier endorses.

Otherwise, the take-off and landing are the most entertaining parts.  Once you're up in the air though, it's just about like riding in a car, only more cramped.

  3. Sandy, Not certain whether you mean what it's like to fly or what New Zealand is like.  First, flying. All depends on whether it's economy or business/first class.  Regardless, it's a long flight so get prepared.  It's a l;ot more comfortanle in business or first class, of course, with most airlines having recling flatbed seats and lots of nice food, etc.  But I flew coach from NYC a long time ago on Air New Zealand and had a great time

Now as for the country, it's semitropical in the North island and temperate in the soutnern island (the opposite of the northern hemisphere).  If you go now, it's there winter and there can be lots of snow especially on the western coast of the south island.

The land itself is quite beautiful and the people friendly.  Christchurch is very british, but with a Kiwi flair.  The water is clean, the air clean.  You should have a wonderful time.  I would recommend a Lonely Planet guide on New Zealand.

By the way, there are plaenty of hostels and camping if that is what you want.  Oh, and the thermal features are great.  Get a good soak in a thermal hot tub
