I know about the country code, but it says "dial 011" first. Do I have to dial a "1" before the "011"?

  1. It depends on where you're calling to. To dial out of the US to most countries you will start with 011 followed by country code and tel. number.

Exceptions to the above rule: countries covered by the North American Numbering Plan (example Canada), and US territories such as Puerto Rico. Dialing to these countries/territories is no different than dialing a US long distance call (1 + area code + number). For a full list of NANP countries see http://www.howtocallabroad.com/nanp.html

  2. Here in Ireland and ever other country I have ever been to you just put 00 before the country code....huh, must be different in the US

  3. you will need to dial 1 then the country code, followed by the number.  I posted a website in the sources link for the lookup of country codes.  so your number should look like this

    1-(country code 011)-phone number

  4. No

The IDD (International Direct Dialing) code prefix for dialing international from USA/Canada is 011.

The IDD is always dialed before the Country Code, if required.

1 is the country code for USA/Canada calling.  You do not need to use 011 in connection with calls within USA/Canada.

So, for calling Canada from USA just dial 1-area code-x*x-xxxx

But for calling from USA/Canada to other countries around the world, use the IDD prefix 011 before the country code.

So, if calling Brazil, you would dial 011-55-xxxxxxxxxx

  5. Dial 011 is the international prefix used to dial somewhere outside of U.S.A.

  6. You must dial 00 then the country code, then the area code then the phone number!!!

    Have fun!
