  1. The tap water in Spain is perfectly safe to drink, it is of a very high quality.  But, because the mineral content may differ greatly from the water in your country it is advised that you buy bottled water to drink because your body will not be used to the change.

  2. Do not drink anything in Europe that is not bottled.  I was in Spain about 7 years ago in the southern portion and ate some food and had food poisoning for 3 days.  It was the most sick I had ever been in my life.  I could not even move.  I think it was from a salad that I ate.  Do not eat anything that is not cooked.

  3. Spain and Portugal are not third world countries!!  I live in Madrid and I drink the tap water.  When I got here I found it tasted a little different to water from home, but now I don't notice it and it tastes of nothing.

Don't listen to what 7418425 said - I suspect the food poisoning was due to a less than hygienic restaurant or some badly cooked food - nothing to do with the water.

However, if you do wish to drink bottled water, make sure you buy it from the supermarket for about 20 cents, the machines and shops will charge 1 euro or more for a small bottle.

  4. It usually doesn't matter where you go, because either way it doesn't feel normal to your body, so I wouldn't drink from anywhere unless some of your friends have gone and found it fine.

  5. U can drink  water is pretty clean and safe

Taste varies, with some praising the clear, cool waters, and others preferring the option of mineral waters instead. But whatever water you choose to drink - bottled or tap you can be assured that you'll need it to quench your thirst when you go exploring this wonderful country

  6. The water is safe.  Most of the locals drink bottled water, but the tap water is safe, and in most places, it tastes REALLY good!  However, in Barcelona, just stick with the bottled water!

As they told me, after a day «¡es fatal!»  (which I took to mean toxic, but realized, after a couple of days that fatal was being used to mean awful!  LOL)  Not sure whether it's because they take it from the sea or something, but by the time they get done adding all the chemicals that clean it...it tastes really bad...sulphury and chloriney.
