  1. Have you got a bank card to withdraw money from an ATM? Just go to a machine over here & withdraw your money. No problem. You don't have to change your bank account or anything.

  2. First, arrive in Scotland and open your Scottish bank account, then arrange with the bank to have the balance transferred from your US account.

Notify your US bank before you go that you will be doing this.

    You should have no trouble.

  3. If your bank has an Internet banking facility, open an Internet banking account, then when you get to Scotland, you can open an account with a bank with the same facility (Royal Bank of Scotland, Bank of Scotland etc:) and transfer money between them easily.

  4. Go to your bank in Scotland and arrange a money transfer. They will need to know your account number address of the bank the routing number and a Swift Code which can be obtained from your US bank account.

Make sure you have the Swift Code before you travel as it is difficult to transfer funds to and from the US without it. It can be done but it saves a lot of time.

  5. Either a Bank Draft, which takes some time or a credit/debit card, the exchange rate is instant. Use the card for withdrawl to cash or just lay it on the counter when you shop or dine.
