  1. Automatically???  No.  You must be sponsored by your spouse to apply for permanent residence.

    As the sponsor, your spouse will have to qualify and agree to provide financial support to you for 3 years.  Your spouse must meet the income and sponsorship requirements.

    As the applicant you must file for residency and send in a criminal records check, personal questionairre and the partner questionairre.  You must also take an immigration medical and pass the exam.

    The application for sponsorship and permanent residence together will cost about 1800.00$cdn.

    All this information and more (including the applications) is available on the Citizenship and Immigrations Canada website at www.cic.gc.ca.

    residency is not automatic, you must immigrate.
