I live in a apartment right near the Gulf of Mexico. It is in Corpus Christi and I used to take walks near the Gulf every day. It's like a 5 minute walk. What should I do? How bad is the damage? Would going to San Antonio make sure I'm protected? Please help!!!

  1. i answered another question about dolly like 5 mins ago. here was my answer

i live in alice. its about 40 miles west of corpus, but i go to corpus alot. sorry buddy, but it not gonna hit us directly, but were gonna get alot of wind. byb alot, i mean about 50 mile per hour winds. today i was in corpus cuz we went to get boards to board up the windows. go get some, board up the windows, get lots of water. the lights will most likely go out, buy flashlights and batteries. lots of batteries. get that thing that channel 3 and HEB got together to make or buy or whatever. its like a weather thing. it comes out on the news alot! get lots of foods. if you have things like a trampoline, tie it too something, cuz it will prolly fly away, if you have anyything outside that isn't tied down, or that isn't really heavy, take it inside and keep it there until its over. don't worry. member like bout maybe 6 years ago (if corpus is ur hometown) there was an other hurricane that was even closer and it was a category like 1 or 2 and we were just fine. just get prepared, and buy that channel 3 and heb weather thing. (i'm pretty sure they sell it at HEB)

don't be scared. were gonna be fine. just pray and keep god with you. -Angelica

  2. I live iN Harlingen and theres not much damage. Its only category 1 so its prolly just a tropical storm where you are. South Texas gets the bad part and there isnt too much damage. But alot of ppl have had to evacuate.

  3. by the time hurricane dolly hits landfall, it wont be a hurricane anymore...so dont sweat it to much. I live at south padre island,...and your freaking out more than me...lol. Be safe, just make sure your pets are in a secure area...Ill keep you posted since it will prolly hit us sooner..!

  4. The last report I saw -- around 10pm on Monday night -- looks like it has turned more towards Brownsville.

We should still expect a lot of rain, high winds, maybe some lost roof shingles, downed trees, and power outages. Nothing that isn't manageable.

We could really use the rain. At this point, I would just keep a vigiliant watch on the news. In about 12 hours we should know a lot more. There should be no need to evacuate unless the storm upgrades to a class 2 or 3 hurricane.

Hang tight and watch the news tomorrow!

  5. Don't panic. Stay informed and watch the news. No reason to evacuate yet. Ed has no idea though. Hurricane Allen, which was a very nasty hurricane hit in August.....no need to panic though. Just keep an eye on the news.

  6. You will be advised if evacuation is necessary.

Even if the storm approaches Corpus, that may not happen unless it is a category 4-5.

A lessor category may cause more flooding than anything else.  Winds will still out electric power/air conditioning,  and flying debris is dangerous

In most cases 24-48 hour warnings are given when landfall is pretty well determined, and evacuation is necessary.

If this occurs, windows should be taped or covered with plywood.

Don't panic over the Katrina hurricane.  Bear in mind that New Orleans is lower than sea level and the protective levees broke.

Texas has never had a hurricane before September.  An exception could happen, eh?

Yes, San Antonio is far enough inland if necessary.  Depends on storm direction, but even they can get heavy rains.

  7. I checked out the water vapor loop on the noaa web site, being a Texan and all, I would say that your gonna get real wet, like in the neighborhood of 3-5 inches. Get up to the hill country. San Antonio will be flooded. Austin Will get plenty but will hold up. The coast is gonna be soaked. The real danger will be the tornadoes that  develop along the storm track. The hill country is tough on twisters, too lumpy. Good luck.

  8. i live in corpus too and right now the storm is a cat. 1 and is heading to brownsville so we should be ok

  9. You can check on the latest information about Dolly here:

    http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

Right now Dolly looks like it will pass rather far south of Corpus Christi, thus rain would be the most likely affect from it there.  I'm a bit concerned right now that it looks so disorganized, and that it may not have the time to strengthen a lot before making landfall.  We'll see.
