I looking for a word...?

Help...it's on the tip of my brain...I need a word that means "to fill a need" (specifically a critical need). For example, an employee that can fill a specialised position.

Any ideas? Sorry if I'm not clear...trying to write several docs at once and my mind is blanking :)
