  1. Contact the bureau of vital statistics in your province(whoever issues birth cirtificates) and ask.  I imagine that someone who knows you would have to swear an oath or sign an apidavid but I don't know for sure.

  2. Did you even lose your birth certificate?  Baptismal certificate?  Early school records?  You can start by getting a new certified birth certificate.  See 1st site below. Once you have that...make some copies and keep them in different places in the house.   Call the drivers license office...they probably need to see the birth certificate to give you a new license. Then you can go get a new drivers license.  If you also lost credit cards...call and report them lost...and the companies will send you new cards with new numbers.  I asked about the baptismal certificate, and credit cards since in some locations you may need to show SOMETHING to get the new birth certificate...rent receipts, or house payment receipts, utility bills, phone bill can also help identify you temporarily.

  3. First off, if you had any credit cards, you should look online or on your last bill for a phone number, and call them to cancel the card. It is far too easy for someone to pretend they are you for a quick buck or two at a local pub or gas station.

Next, you need to notify your bank that you lost your ID and that you want them to not issue any new cards or allow any unexpectedly large transactions for the next few weeks. (Or you can ask them to send replacement cards, but ONLY to your last known address on file) They will want proof of who you are, so bring along a birth certificate if you can, since that is not usually in your wallet.

You can apply to the Canadian government for a replacement Social Insurance card if you know the number by heart (or can get it from your file at work). A replacement driver's license and health card can also be obtained by contacting the appropriate provincial government department.

I am assuming that you lost your wallet, but it could be some other thing, such as a house fire, flood, etc. In those cases, check with people in the know. For example, if your family has home insurance or car insurance, many of these insurance companies now offer a free hotline to call for legal advice. That help line may tell you the best way to get replacement ID and who to contact.

    Good luck!

  4. The first step would be to get your birth certificate.  Most provinces allow online applications for birth certificates and as long as you can answer all of the questions asked correctly, you should have no problem.  The next step after that would be to apply for a replacement SIN card.  I hope that you reported the loss of your ID to the appropriate authorities and, if stolen, to the police.  Do not assume that the police will notify other government agencies etc., do that yourself.

You will always have to prove "you are you" however I assume that you have someone who could vouch for you such as a minister, doctor, dentist, teacher, etc.  After all, no one goes through life without having someone in a responsible position who can vouch for them.

  5. I did that once,I always keep copies at home now.I know my social insurance number by memory, so i had no problem. If you know your sin they can ask you questions about your past, like were you lived and worked for the past 10 years to confirm that it is you.
