I lost control of my car on the freeway?

my car is done, total.. i didnt hit any other cars..

But my air bags never opened and my seat belts didnt get tight.. Do I need to get a lawyer?

I was the driver...I didnt have my kids in the car but once I took a good look I kept thinking what could have happed if they where, they would have flow around in the Van...

You fail to mention the type of impact the car sustained (side, frontal or rear). The air bags do not always go off. It could be the same with the seat belts. They only tighten with a front or rear impact. ADDED------Not all vehicles have side airbags. You did not mention the year, make and model of Van you were driving.

How could that happened that the seat belt wasn't locked and the airbag didn't open when the car was totaled?  

Something is not right.  !!!.
