I boarding a flight from N Carolina to ATL. From ATL, I was going to Lima, Peru. It was a Continental airline. I had a carry on bag, and they told me when I was at the gate that I had to check it bc the plane was too small for my carry-on. So they took it for me, and gave me a slip with a # on it. They told me to pick it up from the Lima gate at the ATL airport. When I got to Atlanta, they didn't know where it was. They said it would probably get to Lima the next day. I arrived in Lima last night, but I'm living in Arequipa. So here I am in Arequipa, missing one bag. How am I supposed to get my bag that CONTINENTAL PERSONNEL lost? They told me that it would be delivered to my house in Arequipa, but there are no Continental airlines that fly to Arequipa. Continental only goes to Lima. How are they goin to get it to my house, and how long will it take? Transportation within Peru is slow and untrustworthy, I know I've lived here my whole life. They need to be held responsible if its lost.

  1. Continental does not fly from Charlotte to Atlanta nor do they fly from Atlanta to Lima, Peru, so I am assuming you were making a connection in Houston or Newark and were on a Delta Airlines flight from Charlotte to Atlanta.  Either way, if the bag was labeled with your current address and was checked to Lima, it should be delivered to you at your home, even if you don't live near the airport.  If the bag was gate-checked from Charlotte to Atlanta (different that being checked to your final destination) then the bag should have been unloaded in Atlanta and would not have been automatically loaded onto the plane to Lima (or Houston or Newark if you were making a connection) and is probably in Atlanta now.  You should contact Delta to see if the bag is in Atlanta.

  2. My bags have been delayed before, just like yours, and I don't live near an airport, either (I live about an hour away). But the next day, when they arrived at the airport, Delta employees drove it all the way to my house and delivered my bags (with a smile on their faces, too). The same thing happened on the way to my vacation, and the bags were delivered promptly then, too - even though I was away from home.

They'll likely drive it to your house - how long it takes just depends on how far away from Lima your home is. And they will be held responsible if it's lost, since your bag is not in your possession.

Be sure to hold on to your baggage number until your bag is delivered, and contact Continental for compensation if it isn't delivered.

  3. When I lived in the middle of nowhere, any clients lost bags were delivered messenger service, the next day.

  4. Oh, that's a tough break. I know though that they'll try to send it to you postage. If that doesn't work they'll hold it as long as possible to see if someone returns to claim it. They'll do as much as they can, but once they can't do anything anymore you're bag cannot be returned to you.
