Question:

I lost my drivers license, and I'm going to get a duplicate, but what if someone finds the old one?

I'm about to request a duplicate DL, but I'm worried someone found or stole the one I just lost. Does anyone know any way that I can have my lost California Driver's License disabled so that someone who finds it can't swipe it at clubs or stores or use it to commit Identity theft? Or when I get a duplicate will the old license automatically not work?

This is for California.

Thanks!

D.L. is a piece of paper in plastic cover?  How do you expect it to "not work"?

Any time you lose your ID (and wallet), you risk somebody committing ID fraud with your ID.  Just hope that somebody honest found it and just destroyed it - and be careful next time.

    Good Luck...

  2. Your license COULD be used for clubs and identity theft.

DMV will notate that you were issued a duplicate license and therefore the lost one would not be valid if presented to the police for a traffic violation.

EDIT--how do you know I'm "guessing"?? most Drivers licenses have control numbers or are printed with DUP1 or DUP2.

  3. I just called the

the place where I took the picture for DL

and they told me how to take care of it

  4. The answer to your question is.. YES.

  5. Ask that question of the DMV. They can tell you if the codes on the old license will be deactivated or not. Anyone on here will just be guessing. I know that's what they do with lost credit and ATM cards but don't know whether it's possible with DL's or not.
