  1. Some locks do have numbers stamped on them, where you would insert the key, and you can get a new key by contacting the manufacturer.  (for example file cabinets)

If this is a knobset, or deadbolt lock though, your best bet may be a locksmith.

As stated, in a previous answer, if you can remove the lock, you can replace it,.... and all you need is a screwdriver.  I'd do this, if I was concerned my key might be found by someone else.

Here is a link to the start of a new lock installation.. it has a good picture of all the parts to a lock -

Where it shows the two 'mounting screws' will sometimes be covered with a decorative plate, which can be removed by using a flat bladed screwdriver.  Often with this type of knobset, the k**b itself must be removed, also with a flat bladed screwdriver, to get that plate out of the way.

Kwikset is a manufacturer of locks and knobsets, you might find their site helpful -

We'll need more details to get any more specific with the answers.

    Good luck

  2. If you can take the lock off you can take it to Home Depot..and have the tumblers redone and rekeyed to fit it.. Just a few dollars..
