I lost my Social Security card. I plan to go to a local SS office (in Broward County) tomorrow, but upon trying to call there for details about what I would need to bring, I was put on infinite hold 8 times.

I haven't ANY ID to use/show except for my current driver's license and a filled out form SS-5, which I think (from their Web site) is the proper form to bring.

CAN I DO THIS WITH JUST MY DRIVER'S LICENSE? Of course, it has my photo on it and is up-to-date. I am in the state of FL.

Thanks much.

  1. You have to fill out a form and provide 1 ID, whether it is license, or birth cert.

  2. no, birth certificate

  3. Yes.

I have done this in the state of Florida, Texas, and Michigan.

You can just go in and show them your drivers license, and they give you a social security card on the spot.

If you lose everything it's a much huger pain.  I had to once get a birth certificate with no ID, that was harsh.  With that, I got my SS card (No picture even on a birth certificate, and I just mainly had to pay for it and wait forever, but it was still a pain in the *** process), and from there got my license.

You can use a SS card to get a license, and a license to get a SS card.  They are connected, and if you go up there to do it, it will be something completely routine.  As in, the person at the counter will have the attitude of "Oh, another one".

So don't worry.  You're good to go :)
