I lost my check while sending to the bank account, it is more than 2 weeks and the bank people are asking me to contact the check issuer and stop the payment and re-issue the check. Where do i call? IT was my IRS tax stimulus check.

  1. call the irs and they HAVE to give you a copy becuase they can verify that it was never deposited.

  2. Contact the IRS at (800) 829-1040 and explain to them that you lost the check.  They will send you a form to fill out.  Once they have verified the check has not been cashed they will issue you another check.

  3. Go to http://www.irs.gov/. Certainly you are not the only person whose rebate check was lost. You can get a replacement.

  4. Call the IRS at 1-800-829-0582, extension 726 and report that the check was received, then lost. You won't need to fill out any forms as the representative will enter the information directly into the computer. It could take up to 6 weeks to get the replacement check, though.

  5. Contact IRS at 1-800-829-1040 or visit your local IRS office, download Form 3911 from the IRS website to take to the IRS office, the Form 3911 will initiate a trace on the check, a new check will not be reissued for another 6-8 weeks.
