Question:

I love Carlos Gomez but....?

What happened to him stealing? I am an avid Twins fan, I watch almost every game....this question will probably not warrant a factual answer, but I just want to know why everyone thinks so...

It has gone down since Casilla has started batting 2nd, maybe because of Casilla's ability to hit and his speed, there is no reason for Gomez to risk 2nd?

(This affects fantasy sort of as well...I have him in 2 leagues but I could drop him for other FAs that are ranked higher...should I?)

  1. I would conjecture that it has to do with playing on Turf.

Even on today's turf it's difficult for the body to endure sliding on slabs of glorified carpet superimposed on a concrete floor. This was long the case for Blue Jays and Expos basestealers as well, I believe it's perhaps impacted by other variables but I think there's a strong probability it's because Gomez, a rookie, and a high-octane hard sliding base thief, is unused to sliding on surfaces other than grass.

I wouldn't drop him, the usual alternatives such as Michael Bourn usually entail killing your BA - AVG. for steals; on the other hand Gomez, he's gained fame on the Twins for his love and passion for playing the game, I would imagine he adjusts quickly.

    Hope this helped, thanks!

  2. I don't know why he hasn't been stealing recently.  He was a machine at the beginning of the season lead the league for a while.  Maybe he has some hidden injury.

  3. Thats bc gomez was caught stealing too many times and hes on a tighter leash. I guess they are just restricting him on stealing and coaching him how to do better. Hes still kinda a rookie so he needs to understand the pick movement better.???
