  1. Most Indian food is ok as far as i now bt try to now whats in the food you eat,use info you now and also dont be afraid to ask questions, bye bye.

  2. It can tend to be pretty rich/fatty if you go for the dishes with the cream sauces. Tandoori dishes are lower in fat.  My favorite dishes are chicken vindloo or chicken murgh curry.  See link below for some nutritional info.

  3. curry chicken

  4. Generally Indian curries are healthier than South East Asian curries due to the use of plain yogurt rather than coconut milk and there's also lots of vegetarian dishes. But personally I'm not a fan of Indian food as I find the use of dried spices to be overpowering at times, often the seasoning overwhelms the natural taste of the ingredients.

  5. I love indian food too. Here is what I noticed.  If you have it at a restaurant then just make sure that there is not a lot of oil in the curries.  If you are a vegetarian some popular dishes are Muttar paneer(Peas and cheese in a sauce), Daal (Lentils), Rajma(Red Kidney Beans), Bangain(Eggplant).  There are a lot of chicken dishes and my favourite is called Butter Chicken.

  6. Am Indian so should know the answer to this one. Indian food cooked at home is healthy, you can always monitor what is going in. But if you are referring to Indian food at restaurants then you'd better be warned. This food is cooked in 'Ghee' which is purified butter, it gives food a yummy taste but is not heart friendly.

Naans are again made from white flour. A healthier option would be 'Tandoori Roti' which is always made from whole wheat flour.

Tandoori Chicken is also healthy as it is not plastered with fat.

  7. Very healthy- my favorite:

Methi Dum Aloo - Fenugreek Indian Spicy Potatoes

    1 pinch asafetida powder

    1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds

    1 teaspoon cumin seeds

3 teaspoons kasuri methi (dried fenugreek leaves)

    salt

    1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1 kg baby potatoes, washed and dried

    For the masala paste

    3 tomatoes, washed,peeled and chopped

    3 onions, peeled,washed and chopped

2 cloves garlic, peeled, washed and chopped

1 inch fresh ginger, peeled, washed and chopped

2 green chilies, washed, ends trimmed and chopped

    3 teaspoons red kashmiri chilies

    1 tablespoon coriander seeds

Grind together all the ingredients mentioned under'masala paste' and keep aside.

Prick potatoes all over using a fork.

    Heat oil in a wok.

Once its hot, deep fry the potatoes in it until golden in colour.

Drain on clean paper towels and keep aside.

Heat oil or ghee in a skillet.

Add cumin and mustard seeds alongwith asafoetida powder.

    Allow to splutter.

Once they stop spluttering, add the ground paste and fry until the ghee or oil separates from the masala.

Add kasoori methi, salt, pepper, potatoes and a little water.

    Stir well.

Cover and cook on medium flame until the potatoes are tender and ready to eat.
