  1. Canning is actually better than bottling for a number of reasons.  First, no light touches the beer.  Cans are lighter to transport and better for the environment.  Modern aluminum cans are lined so the beer never actually touches metal inside the can, so there is no "metallic taste."

Some craft breweries currently canning: Maui Brewing Co., New Belgium (limited availability), Oskar Blues, Surly.

Most craft beers are bottled, but rising costs in hops and transportation are both influencing the trend to start canning good beer.

  2. This is a list of every craft brewery with a canning line (pretty sure).

The big ones are Surly and Oskar Blues both of which make slam dunk IPAs IMO.

  3. Most premium beers come only in glass bottles.  Glass does not compromise the flavor.  I have not had a good beer out of a can.  Evev Heiniken in the can is not as good as in the bottle

  4. Only if you like the metallic aftertaste.  I prefer beers that don't taste like aluminum.

That said, the Pork Slap Pale Ale from Butternuts is pretty good, even though it comes in a can.

  5. When I went to Beer Advocate's Craft Beer Fest earlier this summer, I remember one brewer only had cans (no bottles, no kegs). I can't remember the name of the brewer, though. Believe it or not, I actually had a dream last night where I saw them at a liquor store but when I tried to get close enough to read the label they'd disappear or something... you know how dreams are.

I'm trying to see if I can figure out who it is, so stay posted...

EDIT: It might have been New England Brewing Co. in Connecticut (http://newenglandbrewing.com/home.html); maybe it was Butternut's, which is from New York (http://www.butternutsbeerandale.com/); maybe it was Sly Fox of Pennsylvania (http://www.slyfoxbeer.com/index1.asp). You might want to give one of them a try, if you're from the right region. I also know Newport Storm cans their Amber Ale in the summer months (http://www.newportstorm.com/index.asp).

EDIT2: I'm pretty sure it was Butternut I was thinking of, in case you were interested.
