hey girl....i have been in ur shoes 4 times already......fact: you never know what a person has/does not have for you without communicating with him/her.

so you gotta ask him. fact 2:- i strongly feel that its difficult for a friendship to continue once u let him know abt it and if he aint happy abt it, cuz, after u tell him, whatever u do, he will always feel that u r doing it cuz u like him a lot and he may not like that one bit...(confused??). but then again, if u dont tell him and keep these feelings in ur heart, he will just vanish into thin air after sometime! look girl, you gotta take the plunge....you have to ask him IF u really are serious about him. trust me, there is a big difference between friendship and love. you will find some heavy changes in him after a relationship begins cuz both of you become 'special' to each other. to be frank, there aint any 'safe way to ask him'. NEVER EVER ask him abt his feelings for you through a friend. if u like him tell him directly....you gotta have the courage for that. so, understand the difference between friendship and love, weigh ur options and ask him.
