  1. The first Charger Daytona that exceeded 200 MPH (just over 212 MPH) was testing tires in the spring of 1970 at Talladega Motor Speedway for upcoming NASCAR races, Buddy Baker was driving. A short time later the Daytonas and Superbirds were all exceeding 200 on the super speedways.

Three years, 1968, 1969, and 1970 were the highest horsepower rating years for Mopar performance engines, in 1971 only the "Hemi" ( 425 horsepower, underrated) and 440 3x2 (390 horsepower, about right) retained their 1970 ratings. The 383 and 440 Magnums were down to 330 horses and 370 horses respectively, the 340's highly underrated 275 horses lasted through '72 I believe and dropped to 240 the following year.

  2. there was no real certain speed for those 71 was the year that had the highest horse power rating for all the dodges,i seen a 70 charger setting on a 150 miles per hour while i was in it,the actual speed they was clocked at was well close to 200 miles per hour,Richard petty drove  one a little over 200 miles per hour at the Daytona track, and he achieved speeds well above this on some track,s speeds varied due to engine displacement, good luck.

  3. The 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona was clocked at well over 200 m.p.h.

  4. That all depends on the motor but, I can tell you that 69's are a dime a dozen.  They made far more in this year than in 70'.

  5. I don't know much about which is the fastest all that I know is that they are hard to find and I like chargers alot.

The dodge challenger is also a good car

  6. They were the butt-kickingest cars before all the smog stuff and lean-burn designs cut the horsepower in half. The stock 340/ themoquad equipped with an auto in 1969 was good against everything else in its class, but their brakes weren't worth a **** and if you didn't use Mopar sparkplugs, they'd foul. The Six-Pack equipped Challenger was something you'd just have to get out of the way and let pass, unless you had one too.  The Auto was quicker than the 4-speed. Filled with $.47/ gallon Union Royal Triton, you could go gunning for pinks all weekend. I'm getting nostalgic. We ain't never gettin' back.

  7. The 200 mph top speed was achieved with a modified engine on a NASCAR truck. But the very similar 1970 Plymouth Superbird with 426 hemi was used by the federal Environmental Protection Agency to chase after passenger jets to gather emissions data.
