  1. it really depends how big your dog is. if it is a puppy, then put your hand on its chest/ underside and lift up bringing the head up first and use a hand to support the butt. if its a medium to large dog then you shouldn't be holding it. if its a small dog pick it up the same way as the puppy but hold it in your arms

  2. well hold them like baby.

  3. I was taught by the person we bought my puppy from that you hold them by putting one arm under their belly, right behind their front legs, and the other arm you put under their back legs kind of like their laying down on your arms. Here's a picture:

  4. I've always found it best to sit down on the floor, porch, wherever

the puppy is, at his level. Then gather him gently into your lap,

one hand gently under the belly, other scooping up back paws.

Hold him on your lap with an arm around his front chest, and use

the other to pet and caress him.

While on a chair or couch, pick up puppy under chest and support

hind legs, and put him on your lap. Carefully hold him, as a fall is

    not what a pup needs.

Puppies need a lot of love and reassurrance, and I hope you

hold your pup often, talk with him, and let him know he is cared

    about.

  5. Many dogs don't like to be held, or are too large to be held.

If you were going to try to hold a smaller or younger dog, you'd want to remember the key things about holding cats and babies: support the head and neck if they cannot support it themselves (never let the head flop back!) and support the feet (cats, because of how they sit when you hold them) or bottom (babies).

Be careful picking up an animal or small child directly under the arms because if you pull more from the arm you can accidently pull the joint out of the socket.  You want to gently and firmly hold the torso, never a joint.

When my puppy was about 30 pounds (he's 60 now) I could pick him up and hold him like a toddler, which actually calmed him down immediately when he was hyper or agitated about something (like the kitty that wouldn't play with him).  I picked him up around the torso and lifted him so his front legs were over my shoulders and he was perched on my hip with his hind legs wrapped like a toddler.

When he very first came home, he was small enough to gently roll onto his back in our laps and we'd slowly rub his chest to soothe him to sleep and passively assert ourselves as his pack leaders.  When doing that, we always were careful to watch the neck and head, since if they are confused they may throw their heads and you don't want them to get hurt or freak out when you hold them.

A super small dog, like the "toy" size, can be held just like a cat.

  6. Dogs don't generally like being held.

But if you were to hold one (a smaller one I assume), just cradle them in your arms so that they legs are in a comfortable position really is all.

  7. scoop them by theyre belly then make sure you support theyre butt as you hold them

  8. wtf

  9. You shouldn't really pick up a puppy,

they have 4 strong legs for a reason.

You pick them up the same way as you do a kitten/cat.

DON'T tell me you don't know how to do that either!!

Put your arms around the tummy, and when off the ground put your arm under the dogs legs and hold the back while the puppy lies on your shoulder. Lol.
