  1. Kind of overwhelming, isn't it??  Here's the way I did mine:

Dishes and silverware in the cabinets and drawers closest to the breakfast area

Pots and pans are underneath counter closest to range

Small drawer beside range top has most used spices

Kitchen linens are in drawers beside sink

I've used containers for cleaning products underneath the sink

Utensils are in drawer beside range

Obviously, I put things as close as possible to where I actually use them.  Hope this will help you enjoy your new kitchen. Congratulations!!

  2. Create "work zones".  Near the dishwasher, place your everyday plates, bowls, glasses/cups, silverware to make unloading easier.  Near the stove, place the most often used items like pots, pans, lids, utensils (I have mine in an old crock on the counter) and hot pads.

If you're a baker, establish a countertop area for baking.  Keep your baking supplies there.  A prep area is wonderful and handy to have.  Make that near the sink (washing veggies) and near either the compost container or garbage can and a nice horizontal surface for chopping, slicing and dicing.  Keep your cutting boards and knives in this area. Use knife blocks to protect you and your knives; nothing more dangerous than reaching into a drawer full of knives!

Place not often used items either on high shelves or bottom ones in you cupboards.  If you have room, designate a cupboard area for small appliances that you don't use all the time.  This helps reduce clutter on the counters and certainly makes it easier to clean!

I even went so far as to establish a coffee area.  I have an antique hoosier style cabinet I use as an island and my coffee maker, coffee filters, coffee are all right there.  This way if someone wants coffee and I'm baking, they're not in my way or I'm not in their way.

If you have children (and hence a lot of snacking) create a snack area.  Store all their snacks in one easy to reach area but out of your main work area.

    Hope this helps!
