try to find an agent in your area

once you sign with an agent, you should try attending every audition you possibly can. your agent will suggest and send you to most. the more, the better.

make sure you are capable of doing more than one dance, companies love dancers who are diverse at what they do.

Hi Prettyeyes,

I'm a professional dancer, and what I can tell you about "getting noticed" is that you don't unless your technique is impeccable and you stand out in auditions.

My suggestion to you is to do everything you can involving your style of dance.  Pick one style and you should take at least 25 hours a week of that style.  Next, participate in everything you can!  Be in school plays, dance competitions, shows, recitals, etc.  I would suggest going to a very professional school.  This will be expensive, but if you're serious about becoming a professional (if that's in fact what you mean by "getting noticed"), it'll be worth it.

Go to auditions.  Don't take rejection as an insult.  What you learn in the dance world is that if you're rejected, they want to see more improvement from you, which means they want to see more of you.  Always audition every time you can, even if it's for the same company.  Honestly, you'll never get noticed if you don't do anything and hope Rachel Moore or Kevin McKensie will fall out of the sky and ask you to be in the next performance of Giselle at ABT.

When in an audition, directors notice those who put their own artistry in the choreography.  Instead of stiffly performing the steps, make it artistic and fluid, and add personality to the performance.  Dance like a dancer, and you'll be a dancer.

if i was you i would tape some of your good dances and post them on youtube or any other video hosting site. or you may also try to go to a dancing class or a dancing crew.
