  1. www.Chessgames.com

Where you can learn from Grandmaster games and play against the Little Chess Partner program.

  2. Gameknot.com is what I use. it's a good site with tournaments and other stuff. Lots of players of lots of different skill levels.

  3. yahoo.

    pogo

  4. yahoo games

  5. When yahoo changes stuff their servers go down.  Instead of telling you their server is down they tell you to do stuff, usually download and install the latest flash update or Java plug in.

Then when it finally works, hackers make the clock irrelevant for them.

For thelearning part I found this tutorial good

    http://www.chesscorner.com/tutorial/lear...

    Abandon Yahoo.

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&clien...

That search is online chess -yahoo.  I suggest you pick one other site.

  6. There are lots of sites but here is one that I found to be interesting.

    http://www.jlevitt.dircon.co.uk/index.ht...

  7. Try ICC Internet Chess Club that's where you'll find the best teachers who can give you lessons if your willing to pay for them.

  8. go to pogo.com excellent online chess i learned how to play there

  9. Places like Yahoo! and Pogo are great if you just want to mess around and are not a serious player. You'll learn the rules of the game how not to get mated quickly, but your chess skills will not improve.  Most people who play for free here just try to mate you in 3 moves and move on the next "victim". I find that frustrating (especially when i lose). If you want to really become a great player you need to play where serious chess players play. Chessbase is one such website and I highly recommend it. They sell chess software, have a chess blog, and their chess servers include world class Grandmasters. You'll never find these people on Yahoo! Games.

  10. you can improve your skills by playing against the computer in a game called Kasparov Chessmate

and then you can play with people around the world on yahoo games

  11. chessmaniac.com and chesslab.com
