  1. yes,

    You need an Oxo.

  2. A toothbrush (preferably one you're not using on a daily basis) is a handy-dandy little helper with things like that and it's readily available (no expensive cleaning gadget necessary).  I leave one in the kitchen with the dishsoap for the garlic press, zester, sifter, and anything else that's got those hard-to-clean bits.  Use a brushing motion for the start and then push the bristles straight through the holes for any particularly persistent particles.  Make sure you wash it out really well after each use, though.

This suggestion only applies if you want to keep your current garlic press.  If you're in the market for a new one, the Oxo (suggested above) is super fancy!

  3. G'day mate, there's no substitute for a good garlic press, except maybe using minced garlic, but you don't get the same flavour from minced garlic out of a jar that you do from pressing fresh stuff. I scrape mine out with my finger nail, or leave it on the sink 'till it dries, & poke the wee bits out with a bamboo skewer.

  4. My suggestion would be for you to purchase a Oxo 6.5" Garlic Press.  They are just too cool.  They have little red bristles that push the garlic out as you press.  But remember you still has to wash it after you use it.
