look at the itinerary carefully.

Start to imagine you are already there from day 1, what you do, what you want to wear.

Basic toiletries is a must. (take note the 100ml regulation if you hand carry bags)

Correct clothing. (if you intent to shop there, maybe just bring half the amount needed)

Basic first aid kit and medicine like pain killer, flu tap and stomach problem. (some people may have above 3 problem after eating food from other country)

Spare battery or charger ( check local voltage )

My tips.

Try to bring those things that are going to use up or about to throw away.

Example, old tooth brush and tooth paste.

Old clothing but look ok. Use them for the last time, then dispose it to reduce your return load.

Get a map from local airport even you are with tour group, just in case.

or at lease get a card from the hotel you are staying (with hotel address and tel no).

See where you are heading, do they required visa read more about the place you are going for pleasure or work.  Most importanly travel light, your passport and your cash or whatever........happy trip
