I paid with a credit card to a funeral home because the family didn't have enough, while doing some investigating, they did have the money, but didn't want to spend theirs, could I get my money back?

  1. You may not get the money back from funeral home. You can ask the family to refund the money and if they refuse you can take them to small claims court since your donation was based on false information. You have to prove their income and assets. Also make sure all their friends and family know about this incident. You did the right thing they are just selfish people who wouldn't pay to bury their family.

  2. Its unlikely the credit card or funeral home will give it back since its not fraud, you authorized the transaction in the first place.  Have you asked the family?

Let me ask, why would you want the money back, and what does it mean that they had the money?  "They did have the money" can mean vastly different things, they could secretly be millionaires that ripped you off, or they could have paid with the money that they would have normally spent on the mortgage.  Keep in mind there are so many unexpected expenses when someone dies, and hopefully it was not the breadwinner of the family.  So what if it turns out they are not in dire straights?  If they asked for assistance and you helped them out of the goodness of your heart, why would you give it only to take it back, especially after their loved one died?

  3. That blows. I doubt you can get your money back, unless you take them to court. Even in that case, the court would probably still grant them the money because you donated it.

    Bummer for you.
