  1. Keep setting.  Setting itself strengthens your muscles.  Use cans to lift weights.  Get a stretch band and do repetitions.  If you already made the team, you should know what position you are playing.  If it isn't setter, than it probably won't be as the coach already made up his/her mind.  This doesn't  mean you can't talk to the coach about it though.

  2. Try holding your arms out at length for 5 minutes at a time, 90 degrees to your body. Don't drop them, for any reason until the time is up. rest for 2 minutes and step down to 4 minutes out at your sides. 3min, 2min, then 1. Then hold your arms out above your head for 5 minutes, 4, 3, 2, 1. Do this three times a week for a month and I promise a difference in both your strength and endurance.

  3. I am a setter and can honestly say my arms are the weakest on the team, but my legs are one of the strongest.  If you are in correct position, your legs do most of the work.

What I did make sure to strengthen though, were my wrists and my fingers.  I do push-ups (girl or regular, your preference) on my fingers, rather than my palms.  It really gives a great work out and strengthens them quickly!

Quick, repetitive sets on the wall in sets of 100 (no more than an inch off of the wall), with both hands, then each individual hand, is great wrist and finger strengthening too...it also helps you handle the ball much easier during play.

Another great tool...a setter's ball.  It's a volleyball that has extra weight in it.  Practice setting on the wall AND with a partner with the setters ball and you will strengthen everything you need to!

  4. There's a setters training ball you can get that is heavier than a regulation ball. You can practice with this at home and when you get to practice and use the regular ball you will see the difference.

You could also use different weight medicine balls and set to yourself at home with the same results.

  5. Hon, setting requires barely any arm strength... as long as you use your legs you barely have to use your arms. Make sure you push up and out from your forehead. Doesn't cost anything in money or sweat!

  6. Push-ups, sit-ups, bottle-circular-shaking (for your wrist), and more practice for your legs.

Remember a good set comes with strength from your wrists, arms, waist, and your legs.

You may refer to the following page to see how to finish a "perfect" set and how an "end state" looks like, but you may not have to follow it point-to-point. As the matter of fact, sometimes you may not be able to make use of all your body parts to make the "perfect" set.
