I made butter cream frosting and seems hard to spread. any suggestions

  1. Did you use confectioner's or granulated sugar?  Confectioner's sugar helps frostings to spread easier.  Otherwise just beat in a tiny bit of liquid.


  2. If you just took it out of the fridge of course it will be hard. Let it warm up a little. If not then maybe you haven't creamed it long enough to get it soft enough for easy spreading.  

  3. Add a tiny bit of water or milk and stir it in. Be careful not to add too much as it can easily get too runny!

  4. Add a tiny amount of milk and give it a really good beating.

  5. Is your room too cold or are you starting with cold butter? If so, let it warm up a little. Otherwise, a little milk or cream should help, and cream it a lot more.

    If it is the crumb on the cake that is making it difficult to spread, try doing it in two layers - first spread a thin layer of frosting to catch and hold the crumbs, then add a thicker layer to look good.  

  6. Back in the mixer, then spread

  7. Try adding a bit of milk to it - should make it easier
