I looked up recipes online and added the combination of healthy items to make treats out of bordem. I want to know if this is safe. I added the following-

Cellery stick/leafs/cloves

Garlic salt/powder

wheat bread

grapes

baking soda

Flax Oil

powder sugar

corn oil.

I want to know if this is healthy, and safe. I oven cooked them and they look good. Help please?

  1. Looks good to me...

Ha...but how frustrating it can be...when your horse doesn't want anything to do with them!

My mare has decided in the past year...that she doesn't like apples anymore.  What is that about???

  2. Where are the carrots? lol.

They sounds pretty healthy to me, but will the horses choose to eat them? I've made treats in the past, and many of the horses had no idea I was handing them a treat, so they refused to eat them. So if you just break up the treats into smaller pieces and add them to their feed, they'll eat them. Then again, some horses will eat ANYTHING, so you may not face that problem.

  3. It's all safe stuff and it won't hurt the horse.  However, it's likely not a large enough amount to do him much good unless he eats them all at one time.

good luck with this - I've tried all sorts of things that looked good enough for me to eat, and the horses wouldn't eat them.  I stopped trying.  Never give a horse flour of any sort though.  You say 'wheat bread" and I assume that means you're using bread already baked.

  4. Here is my recipe:

    1 cup of flour

    1 cup of dry oatmeal

3 to 4 tablespoons of Olive Oil

1 cup of chopped carrots or 1 cup of chopped apples. (or add both!)

1 and half cup to 2 cups of molasses, I add more if it's too dry.

I tried to keep my stuff basic.  I wouldn't use powered sugar, baking soda or corn oil. Thats my opinion, my horses get enough surgar from their grain.  Try using olive oil to replace the corn oil, It's better for their coats and mane.

    ALSO:

Make sure you don't feed them so many treats like these, the best healthy treat are carrots or apples, My horse is not a huge fan of apples but loves carrots. LOL
