  1. Depends on what the mistake was.  If it was something simple that needs to be corrected with an amended return, either can most likely handle it.  But if it's anything complex, or if you've received an audit letter from the IRS, I'd go with an enrolled agent.


  2. Either one can prepare an amendment for you if that is what is needed.  You should contact those located conveniently to you and discuss the nature of your issue.  If they seem to understand how to handle it they will do fine.

  3. And of course there are Enrolled Agents on the job at places like H&R Block.  Good Luck!

  4. Probably neither.  In most cases, downloading Form 1040X from http://www.irs.gov, entering both the originally filed information, the correct information, and the difference, and mailing it (it cannot be electronically filed) is sufficient to correct mistakes.
