  1. okay i have two goats butterfly and butterfinger; well goat chow which is a feed markets and hay, and alfalfa you will need shelter, and if i could re comment you don't need two but get two goats and have them dehorned so no injures accrue it is a quick painless process, They also smell so cleaning every week is recommend. And weekily brusing and i say no fair contest it is so gross there your goat can pick up a sickness. And that is all i really have to say hope you have a good time with your goat.

  2. The first place you should go for help is the person selling you the animal(s). He has experience with goats and will want you to succeed with yours.  Another source of information is your feed store.  It wouldn't hurt to get a good book on goats or small livestock to refer to when questions come up.  Storey Publishing has several that would be useful to a new goat owner.

  3. ask the seller. he will tell you what he's been feeding. You don't have to have two but its good to have two. you can remove the horns but you don't have to. They enjoy things to climb on.

  4. why are u getting a goat?

    thats pretty random

  5. Start doing your research and familiarize yourself with basic care before you make an absolute decision.  I tell anyone who's considering starting with goats is to pick up a copy of Storey's Guide to Raising Goats and start talking to local breeders.  There are many breeds to choose from and you've got some decisions to make about what you want out of owning the animal.

Also, unless you're looking for a pygmy, most goat kids are already sold or growing up fast.  Dairy goats kid in spring (usually between March and May), and my kids sell almost as fast as they're born.  You may have some trouble finding a "baby" at this point.  Even my youngest ones are already weaned.  Some pygmies can be bred for late summer/early fall kids, but some of this depends on the breed and their estreus cycle.

If you get goats, definitely plan on getting two.  They are social and need companionship, or they will become the most annoying, loud and clingy animal.  And they escape and end up hanging out on your back porch waiting for you to come out and play.

If you don't want a milk goat and just want pets, consider a pair of wethers.  They usually have terrific personalities and most breeders sell them for a great price.  If I know mine are going to a good home, I practically give them away.

Start doing your general research and feel free to email me if you need more specifics about basic immunizations, hoof care, etc.  Too much info to cram into one response!

BTW, goats are not "lame" - they're intelligent, friendly and gentle, and definitely one of the smarter barn animals.  They are by and far my favorite.
