I'm seeing my doctor tomorrow and hoping he can answer some of my questions. I know we would both probably need some shots but what about when we're over there if he gets a cold? Has anyone moved young children to Africa (Zambia in particular) before?

  1. My youngest daughter travelled to Africa (Gabon) when she was 10 days old. We could not get her to open her eyes for the passport photo, but that was the only problem.

Of course, she used a crib with a mosquito net from floor to ceiling.

The only compulsory shot you need is Yellow Fever. Good shots to have are hepatitis and TABC.

If you are travelling to Africa with an expat or NGO employment contract, you will have access to (rather) good medical facilities. Make sure you have medical repatriation insurance.

We had brought a family medical dictionary and we used it for small ailments (colds, small wounds, stomach ache, ...).

My best advice is: contact other expat mothers and talk to them when you arrive.

  2. YOU'LL BE FINE THERES MORE WHITE PPL IN AFRICA IF THATS WHAT YOU CONCERNED ABOUT
