How often are the huge (eg Huntsman) spiders seen in your house? I will live alone & am not used to such beasts. Sadly, with the intensity of my phobia, this is a serious consideration. Am not too keen on cockroaches either! Shame huh? Any advice appreciated! x

  1. I lived in Cuenca and I visit regularly. Last year, in a small home my family owns in the fields, I went in to the kitchen and saw a spider the size of my hand (to be fair my is about 2 inches wide lol). I mean in my opinion it was huge and I was terrified lol. I'm pretty sure you won't have spiders and roaches going crazy but Galapagos is more tropical so there might be a bit more roaches and spiders than in Cuenca. I'm sure you'll find Galapagos wonderful and that it'll probably make you ignore the minor nuisances like the bugs.

  2. There are no big spiders in Galapagos and it is unlikely that you will find them inside a house or room, the same goes to roaches. (So you won't have to worry about these creatures)

But one thing you will notice though are small lizards walking on top of the ceilings of houses, these reptiles are found all over the islands in Galapagos, but they are very shy and nothing to worry about because they are harmless.

  3. It's not like you'll see them everyday. It's obviously not that big of a problem, if it was, we'd have less tourist. You see a spider, turn the other way. They don't just chill in your house waiting for you.

  4. Galapagos has the world biggest spiders. I suggest you wear some kind of body armour. Be carefull in the shower. I used to see them there all the time.

    P.S. check the toilet too.
