I maybe deserved that chance: Hussey slams selectors
Michael Hussey, the veteran Australian batsman, expressed his disappointment after being ruled out of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 due to his hamstring injury.
“I’m really disappointed and a bit shocked by the news, it’s pretty hard pill to swallow,” Hussey stated.
Hussey and spinner Nathan Hauritz (dislocated shoulder) were informed by the selectors on Tuesday that they would not be flying out to India for the World Cup due to their ongoing injuries and would be replaced by Jason Krejza and Callum Ferguson.
However, Hussey stated that he was hoping that the selectors would give him time to recover from a rather serious injury as he deserved a chance to prove his fitness.
“...I maybe deserved that chance (to be fit)...,” Hussey stated before adding that he will definitely learn from this experience and will try to enjoy every game he gets to play for Australia.
The 35-year-old batsman stated that he tried to push his case forward in front of the selectors. The player asked the selectors to give him time as he would work hard to be fit by the second game. However, Hussey added that the selectors did not want
to take any “risk” for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s bid to defend the World Cup.
The Western Australian batsman was his side’s leading scorer in the embarrassing Ashes 2010-11 debacle, after proving his mettle over his flailing form, but despite his recent career-boost the selectors decided to go against him.
Hussey pointed out that the Australian selectors picked Andrew Symonds in the 2007 World Cup in the Caribbean, despite of his ruptured biceps injury that he suffered a month before the event. Symonds remained with the squad and regained his place at
the later stages of the tournament to help his team defend the trophy.
“I was hoping that would be the same sort of thing for me really...,” he added.
Australia will be leaving for the sub-continent on Wednesday to prepare for their first warm-up match against India on the 13th of February, 2011.
