Will I have to re apply or will it transfer when I tell them i'm moving, they say I have a over payment here in Ca.

Also does anyone know how much it will drop?

Will I lose anything?

  1. SSI is a federal program - so it will transfer. The amount you get in your base check will be unchanged. (Probably $637.) The amount in your state check will change dramatically as California has one of the largest supplements and Georgia one of the lowest.  But the cost of living is also dramatically different.

Get your overpayment situation resolved before you move or it will be harder to fix from Georgia.

  2. When you call in your change of address ask them what the new state pays.  Many states pay the same but several states pay more.  So it depends on what state you are moving to.

Not only do you not have to reapply but your overpayment will follow you around too.

  3. Yes, it will drop. I am not sure by how much. I would consider contacting them before I make the move. Get the overpayment straight before you leave. The matter will not resolve itself just because you move.

  4. Your SSI follows you where ever you go.

Call or visit the local Social Security Administration (SSA) office to see if your SSI will drop when moving.
