Question:

I moved and what happened? Did I skip a grade?

I used to live in Georgia, and while I was there I was the same age as everyone else in my class. But ever since we've moved here to our new location, I'm the youngest in the class. I just turned 15 going into 10th grade? Can someone enlighten me as to what happened? Did I technically skip a grade by moving? All my classmates started school at the same age as me.

  1. 15 going into 10th grade sounds normal to me.. maybe everyone is just older than you there? Were you in 8th grade last year? If not, no you didn't skip a grade.

Apparently CA starts schooling a year earlier than most other states, so it's probably that, if you moved to CA.

  2. If you could tell me what month you moved and what grade you were in while in Georgia I might be able to answer your question.  It could very probably be that the cut off date for school enrollment is different in your new school than in your old which could explain why you are experiencing the age difference.

ex.  In NJ, a student has to be 5 by September 16th to enroll in 1st Grade.  His birthday falls on September 28th, so he fails to be eligible to enroll and therefore ends up in Kindergarten.

In CO, a student has to be 5 by October 1st to enroll in first grade.

In this state, our student would be have been eligible to enroll in 1st grade.

This may be what has happened?

  3. No idea.

    That's just jacked up.

Maybe they're all stupid? And ALL got held back a grade? Possible.

  4. They could have a different cut-off date than the other state you resided in.

  5. Sounds like it, but if you moved to california, they start school a year earlier then everyone, so you would be in that grade. But i am not sure.

What grade where you in before you moved. Cause you would know if you skipped a grade.

Like if you were in 8th and moved during the summer, then you would be in 9th.

but your going into 10th, so it is obvious
