-I live abroad

-I'm a U.S. citizen

-I will buy a used car in California

-I will drive this car for exactly 1 month this summer

-I will then park it at my parents home for the winter

-It will not be driven until next year

-Most insurers appear to offer only 6 month policies with large cancellation fees.

-Companies in the UK, AUS, and SAfrica appear to have 1 month policies.

Yes, these days if we have a car there are lots of things that we should consider into account especially with the insurance thing. I understand what your problem is all about and I think the below website may solve your problem. You can almost find any information related to car insurance.

Car insurance is essentially insurance that covers you, your passengers, and your car in case of an accident. Most states require that car owners carry liability coverage in their car insurance policy. Liability insurance covers expenses incurred for damaging another vehicle with your own when you are at fault. This means that if you are in a vehicular-->accident and your car caused the damage, then the liability piece of your car insurance will cover the damages according to the terms of your policy.

  4. You need to contact an insurance company & request a binder. This can be used for short term coverage.  There are not a lot of companies that sell them any longer.

  5. For automobile insurance the best way to get a good rate is do a rate comparison on auto policies. Make sure that you pick similar policies with the same deductibles, auto make, zip code, etc so that all things are an accurate comparison.

What I always recommend is an internet comparison quote at http://www.InsureAutoNow.info since they have big name insurers and can give many quotes on auto insurance polices.

  6. Sorry, insurance polices are yearly, with renewal every 6 months or yearly, depending on the company.  There is no such thing as a 1 month policy, and if you take a regular policy and cancel after a month there will be penalties to pay and you lose money.

Not to mention you can't just park a vehicle in CA for 11 months without filing out this form:  http://www.dmv.ca.gov/forms/reg/reg5090.... and it can't be parked on any public street during the 11 months you aren't using it.
