I have 3 children (8 months, 2 1/2 years & 5). I need to get new car seats for them. I have leather sports seats so the big bases on the 2 younger childrens car seats dont fit with the arms on the older childs car seats. I have looked on a few websites but none of them help. I have also been to a few stores but the assistants have been no use. Can anybody help please?

  1. You do not state what year your VW  is; however, I also advise you to speak with your VW dealer. If your car was built after the enactment of the new standards, you may not have the required anchors for three seats. These anchors are commonly referred to as UCRA's, or Uniform Child restraint Anchorages.

  2. My wife and I had a similar problem. We have a Mazda Tribute and the back seat wasn't wide enough to fit 3 car seats across. We found some car seats at Wal-Mart that "fit the bill" they were about $50 each. They are the COSCO brand. A lot narrower than most seats. I also bought some 2" foam to put under each seat to protect the leather in the car. To date these seats are working great and the leather in the car has very little signs of anything being on it.

  3. Click onto Breakerlink, or 1st car spares. They are a network of car dismantlers and if they have what you want, they will deliver to your door, but they will quote you a price first.Including a delivery charge.

  4. Try your local VW dealership they can get all types of seat shipped in for you .

  5. In any situation where you need 3 across, it is easier to use 3 harnessed seats than to have any boosters. That's b/c since 3 across makes for a tight squeeze, it is incredibly difficult to have to dig down between seats to get the buckle each and every time the 5 year old gets into the vehicle. Your best bet for fitting 3 across is going to be getting 3 Sunshine Kids Radian65. They harness from 5 -65lbs, 5-33lbs rear facing, and then 33lbs to 65lbs for forward facing. These are the thinnest car seats out there, and especially with one of the seats being rear facing, should work. Put the rear facing one in the middle, b/c the Radians are rather tall and that will allow the back of it to poke out between the front seats rather then pushing one of the front seats forward so far as to be uncomfortable.

Here's a thread about someone getting 3 seats across in a Passat :

You may also be able to have 2 Britax Marathons and 1 Radian, putting the rear facing Marathon in the middle.
